Michaela Williams

An Educational Journey

Making the transition from a community college to Eastern was fairly easy for junior Michaela Williams, a public relations major with a special interest in design.

Prior to taking a speech class, Michaela did not know what she wanted to study. Her speech teacher helped her realize that the Department of Communication Studies was a good fit for her. Looking further into the major, she found that public relations related more to her than any other option.

While this is only her second semester at Eastern, she has already gained design experience in her classes. Michaela especially enjoyed her applied communications class where she completed hands-on assignments and created posters, business cards, brochures, and portfolios. These assignments have helped her to build her portfolio and gain important professional skills.

After graduating, Michaela hopes to start her career in Champaign. From there, she plans to move to Chicago or St. Louis and work for bigger companies. In ten years, Michaela would like to be married with one child and live in the city with an advertising job, while pursuing her interest in photography as a free-lancer.

Michaela is very driven and will be a great advertising designer. Thomas J. Watson Jr. once said “Good design is good business.” With her skills, qualities, and interests, Michaela will surely launch a successful career.
