Megan Sweeney

Motivated Megan

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.” What Aristotle once established is certainly true for senior Megan Sweeney. Megan is a Communication Studies major with a concentration in public relations. However, Megan first went to the College of DuPage to become a teacher. It was not until she got to Eastern that she realized that teaching was not for her. At Eastern, she instantly knew that she would enjoy public relations, because it would provide a variety of career opportunities. Studying communication has also helped her become more open and less afraid to speak out and give suggestions at work.

Megan plans to graduate in December 2012, but is focusing on her future career already. As an active member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, Megan has gained management and event planning experience by helping to plan a concert on campus. Before coming to Eastern, Megan also gained professional experience as a student ambassador at her previous school, where she helped plan university visits and directed tours for prospective students and their families. This experience improved her ability to work with a variety of people and deal with different personalities.

This summer, Megan will complete a paid sales internship at Aldo Shoes, where she will be working as a sales lead. To get ready for a career in public relations, Megan has also become acquainted with social media. She is especially interested in how it helps promote businesses.

Next year, Megan Sweeney will have graduated and will be on her way to becoming a successful public relations specialist. She is going to do great things, and I cannot wait to see what she will accomplish.
