Double-Header
Meet the poster child for multi-tasking: Tyler Texas Sapp. When he is not serving his country as an active member of the United States Army, he enjoys playing soccer and doing his public relations homework at Eastern Illinois University. Tyler is a 21 year old junior with a major in communication studies and a focus in public relations. While he is currently concentrating on his studies, he could be pulled away in the blink of an eye to fight on the frontlines.
Tyler joined the Army on September 16th, 2008 to follow in the footsteps of multiple family members who served as well. After spending a few years in the service, Tyler is considering a career in the Army and aspires to retire as a major.
EIU seemed to be the best choice for Tyler when he graduated from Tuscola High School. It was close to home, only requiring a 25 minute drive to campus. Another selling point was that his parents graduated from EIU as well. He started his double-header of school and service by majoring in communication. It seemed to be a good fit for Tyler, because it prepares him well for a career in the Army. The communication and technology skills he is gaining will help him rank higher in the chain of command and maintain a stable career.
Tyler enjoys the friendly atmosphere on campus and that his professors are very friendly and approachable. He will never forget when he got a little too close to the president of the university…with his car! Lucky for him, President Perry wasn’t alarmed, and cheerfully waved his way and walked on by.
“Driven” is the one word Tyler uses to describe himself. Looking at what he keeps up with on a daily basis, he is exactly right. He loves challenges, which is perfect for the lifestyle he has quickly become accustomed to. He balances a full schedule of service and scholarship, while many complain about a little extra homework. His ambition should be an inspiration to us all.
