Nicole Preston

An Outstanding Student

Nicole Preston is an outstanding junior at Eastern Illinois University with a lot on her plate. She is a hard worker and constantly challenges herself. Nicole maintains a 3.8 GPA, works out, and is the recruitment chair assistant in her sorority. This is not easy for anyone to juggle, but Nicole can handle it.

Attending Eastern has only helped her along her journey. She selected Eastern because of its atmosphere and size. Nicole chose public relations as her major because it is a broad subject area that offers many opportunities. Her major has provided her with many insights into the way we communicate and the world. She has gained experience from the classes she has taken and has been able to utilize them in the workplace.

This summer she worked as an intern at Topco, a national branding company for private label food. The internship was intense, and she could apply every aspect of the classes she had taken. Her communication studies classes not only prepared her for this internship but also for the work as the recruitment chair assistant in her sorority. In this position, she uses organizational and communicational skills to help her organization network with other students at EIU.

Beside her busy schoolwork and her sorority, Nicole still finds time to work out. She likes going to the recreation center on campus after she gets done with her classes for the day to break a sweat. This is one of her favorite things to do because it relieves all the stress that comes with going to college. It keeps her motivated and she loves the never-ending challenges.

Nicole has a lot on her plate, and she hopes that all of her activities will prepare her for her career. After college, she would love to work for the Creative Services Department at Topco.  In this job, she would not only use her public relations skills, but she would also work in advertising and marketing. To better prepare for such a demanding position, she will soon pick up an advertising minor.
