David Jackson

A Search for the Perfect Major

David Jackson loves meeting new people and is very outgoing. He has always known that he wants to work with people. Eastern is giving him the experience and opportunities to do just that. He first decided to go to Eastern because it was a big enough school that he would meet many new people, but small enough that he would not be overwhelmed. Another bonus; it was far enough away from home!

David works in the membership department at the C.W Avery YMCA in Plainfield, Ill., where he writes memos and press releases. He loves how rewarding the job can be. He has also worked as a night assistant in Douglas and Andrews Hall. These opportunities on campus have helped him experience new things and step outside of his boundaries.

David is now majoring in communication studies with a focus in public relations and a minor in English. He is additionally working towards his minor in marketing. David started off as an English major but soon found that he wanted a more applied focus. This change of heart began the search for his perfect major.

David’s outgoing personality and strong professional experiences made communication studies a perfect fit because of the social aspect that comes along with it. The guidance counselors were very helpful and made the transition from English to communications studies easy.

After college, David wants to go to graduate school and get a degree in marketing. He is excited for the future. He acknowledges Eastern for providing him with the knowledge he needs for his career and for preparing him for the challenges he will face. His studies help him accomplish his goals and give him direction for his future responsibilities.

Looking back at his time at Eastern, David says “The first time I visited Eastern I felt comfortable. All of the teachers are personable and approachable. I am not sure if I would have experienced that on a bigger campus. I am really thankful I am spending my college years here and credit Eastern for giving me confidence and preparing me for the future.”
