"Finding the Mold"

Jenna Hey is a junior communication studies major with a focus in public relations. She is an ambitious student and has the drive of a racehorse. Jenna is very happy in her major and has high hopes for the future.

Jenna is a very social individual and Eastern Illinois, especially the Department of Communications Studies, has taught her to be outgoing and less nervous in interpersonal situations. Jenna is also a levelheaded person. She worked at a Toys ‘R Us, and her communication classes have prepared her to communicate better with customers and handle frustrating situations in a calm and collective manner.

After graduating from Antioch High School in Antioch, Illinois, Jenna decided that Eastern was the right university for her. She started as a journalism major, but decided soon that communication studies was the right fit for her. “Communications is fun to me, I enjoy my classes, and the professors are very helpful,” Jenna says about her major.

Jenna is an active member in many organizations. She is involved with Catholic Charities and Buddy Baseball and has volunteered at a pet rescue center. Jenna is also getting involved on campus and has just joined the Public Relations Student Society of America.

Eastern and the Department of Communications Studies have taught Jenna many lessons for the future. She learned to be more outgoing and open about her opinions and views. “Since I have been in communications I feel like I can just spark up a conversation with anyone or express my opinion openly without having to be afraid someone will think less of me.” After graduating Jenna hopes to take the skills she has gained into the public relations, advertising, or marketing field. She plans to get involved in the beauty product industry. In ten years Jenna sees herself in an advertising job, married, and living in the Chicago suburbs near her family with a dog or a cat in the household.
