Alumnus Named EIU Global Ambassador
A Communication Studies alumnus has been named an Eastern Illinois University Global Ambassador.
International broadcaster Sarah Zaman has been selected as one of six Global Ambassadors by the E.I.U. Office of International Students and Scholars. The award honors former international students for their personal and professional achievements.
Sarah is a television anchor, reporter, and producer for Voice of America's Urdu TV service, based in Washington, D.C. She works on a daily TV news program that airs in her home country of Pakistan.
Sarah earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies with a concentration in Electronic Media Production from Eastern in 2005. She went on to earn a Master's Degree from the University of Florida. Her graduate thesis film "Bismillah" won a student Emmy and a Cine Golden Eagle Award in 2008. The film follows the struggles of an American-Muslim woman breaking into local politics in Minneapolis. The film aired on Al-Jazeera English’s program Witness in 2010.
Sarah and five other Global Ambassadors will be recognized at a series of special events on the Eastern campus on September 21st and 22nd.
