Social Marketing Internship gives students practical experience
Eight EIU Communication Studies majors are receiving practical experience this fall through the department's Social Marketing Internship program.
Participating students receive internship credit to develop informational and promotional programs for EIU's Health Education Resource Center. This semester, the interns are focusing on a campaign to promote personal protective behaviors for college students who consume alcohol. As part of the campaign, the Communication Studies students are creating social media and other informational materials. They are also developing material for events like the EIU Health Fair and Homecoming.
During the past two years, the Social Marketing Internship program has received $3,000 from EIU's Redden Grant Program to pay for campaign materials.
The Social Marketing Internship program was established in the Fall of 2009 by Communication Studies faculty members Elizabeth Gill and Matt Gill. Interested students apply for the program each semester, and are selected on the basis of their qualifications. A new set of students will be selected to participate in the program for the Spring semester of 2011.
