EIU broadcast students take home 6 Silver Dome awards

Broadcast students from Eastern Illinois University took home an all-time high 6 first place finishes in the 2010 Illinois Broadcasters Association Student Silver Dome Awards.  The contest recognizes the top work done by student broadcasters at colleges and universities throughout the state of Illinois. 

WEIU-TV News Watch received the 1st place award for Best Television Newscast.  WEIU-TV Sports Watch End Zone was awarded 1st place for Best Television Longform Program.

John Twork (2010 graduate from Bloomington) received 1st Place for Best Radio Commercial and for Best Radio Public Service Announcement.  Twork also received 2nd Place for Best Radio Sports Story and 3rd Place for Best Radio Sports Play-by-Play.

Phil Norton (2010 graduate from Charleston) and Kate Kelley (senior from Danville) received 1st Place for Best Radio Station Promotion.

Kevin Jeanes (2010 graduate from Naperville) received 1st Place for Best Television Weathercaster.

Tom Bickham (senior from Evergreen Park) received 2nd Place for Best Radio Air Check, while Nathan Schwalm (senior from Champaign) and Ethan Kruger (sophomore from Aurora) received 3rd Place Awards for Best Radio Air Check.

Zach Nugent (2010 graduate) received 2nd Place for Best Television Sports Package.  And Emily Mieure (senior from Lawrenceville) and Avery Drake (junior from Charleston) received 3rd Place for Best Television Photojournalism.

Awards were presented October 8th at the IBA-U Student Broadcasters Conference in Normal.
