Alumnus wins public relations award

An alumnus of Eastern Illinois University's Communication Studies Department has won a public relations award in New York City.

Angela Byrne was named PR Rookie of the Year in the Corporate or Agency category in this year’s PR Daily Awards.  Byrne works for Cognito, which is a PR and marketing agency for the financial sector.  She earned both her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Communication Studies at Eastern. 

During a little more than one year at Cognito, Byrne has managed more than 19 clients and has already been promoted.  She co-heads the philanthropy project at Cognito, working pro bono for the American Cancer Society’s annual financial services gala.  The event raised more than $1.6 million, breaking the previous record for the gala.
