WEIU-TV News Watch earns awards in three national contests

WEIU-TV News Watch has been honored as one of the top three college television newscasts in the nation in three recent competitions.

Eastern's student-produced TV newscast won first Place for Best TV News Show in the Society for Collegiate Journalists national competition. 

WEIU-TV News Watch placed second in the Best Student Newscast category in the Broadcast Education Association's Media Festival of the Arts.  The awards were presented April 11th in Las Vegas.  It’s the seventh year in a row Eastern has received a national award in the BEA competition.

News Watch also finished third in the Emmy Foundation College Television Awards Newscast competition.  Elon University of North Carolina won the Emmy for the best college newscast in the country, while Arizona State University finished second.  The awards were presented April 9th in Los Angeles. 

WEIU-TV Newswatch also won first place for Best TV Newscast in the Illinois News Broadcasters Association's annual contest.  Dustin Tylman (junior from Charleston) won first place for Best News Videography in the same competition.  Those awards were presented April 16th in the Quad Cities.

WEIU-TV Newswatch has won Mid-America Regional Emmys for the top college newscast in Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas two years in a row.  The program has also been honored as the top college newscast in Illinois three times in the last two years, and was also a finalist in the Fall of 2010 for the Best College Newscast in the nation in a contest sponsored by Collegiate Broadcasters Incorporated.

WEIU-TV News Watch is Eastern's 30-minute student produced local newscast.  It airs from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
