An Eastern Illinois University Communication Studies major has been awarded first place in a statewide radio production contest.

Korey Adkins (senior from Mattoon) took first place in the 2012 Be a Buckle Buddy Radio PSA contest.  The contest requires students to produce a radio public service announcement to promote the Be a Buckle Buddy child safety program.  The contest was sponsored by the Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety and Children's Hospital of Illinois.  It's the 3rd year in a row that an Eastern Communication Studies major has placed in the contest.

Korey received a cash prize and a certificate.  The awards were presented by Jennifer Toney of the Illinois Department of Transportation and Savanna Bohm of Children's Hospital of Illinois.

This was the third statewide honor received by Korey Adkins in the past year.  Earlier in the year, he received an Illinois Student Silver Dome Award for Best Use of New Media.  He also place first in the Fall 2011 Best New Ad statewide competition, for his public service announcement promoting the Cellphones for Soldiers program.
