EIU Student Broadcasters win another national award

Eastern Illinois University broadcasting students have won another national award.

WEIU-TV News Watch was named the nation's Best Television Newscast by Collegiate Broadcasters Inc.  The announcement was made at the organization's national convention Friday in Louisville, Kentucky.  News Watch is a 30 minute student-produced television newscast that airs on WEIU-TV weekdays at 5:30 p.m.    

Two other entries produced by EIU students were finalists for national awards, but did not win their category.  Katie Rufener (2010 graduate from Mattoon) and Emily Mieure (senior from Lawrenceville) were finalists for Best Television News Reporting for their work on "Fire Story", which aired on WEIU-TV Newswatch.  And John Twork (2010 graduate from Bloomington) was a finalist for Best Radio Sports Play-by-Play.

Eastern's 3 finalists were the most for any university in the state of Illinois.
