Three faculty members win awards
Three faculty members from the Department of Communication Studies have won awards for being among the top faculty members at Eastern Illinois University in 2011.
Dr. Shirley Bell, Dr. Olaf Hoerschelmann, and Dr. Richard Jones received Faculty Achievement and Contribution Awards for 2011. The awards are given annually to faculty members based on extraordinary achievement and effort, impact on the achievement of others, and contribution to the success of others. Approximately 50 tenured and tenure-track faculty members at Eastern receive the awards each year.
Awards are given in four categories: Teaching and Performance of Primary Duties, Research/Creative activity, Service, and a Balanced category for faculty who excel in multiple areas. Dr. Bell was recognized for Teaching and Performance of Primary Duties, Dr. Hoerschelmann received his award in the Service category, while Dr. Jones was honored in the Balanced category.
Dr. Bell has been at Eastern since 1995 and teaches courses in Interpersonal Communication. Dr. Hoerschelmann has been a faculty member at EIU since 2002 and teaches courses in Mass Communication in addition to being the department's Coordinator of Graduate Studies. Dr. Jones joined the EIU faculty in 2010 and serves as the Basic Course Director for Communication Studies, in addition to teaching a variety of classes.
