Single Subject Experimental Research - Research design typically implemented with 1-5 subjects where cause-effect can be systematically evaluated and control mechanisms are included (e.g. Multiple Baseline Designs, Alternating Treatment Design, Withdrawal Design).
Case Study Descriptive Research - Research design typically implemented with 1-5 subjects to evaluate 1) the nature and character of a novel pattern of communication development or disability or 2) a novel or innovative intervention process or product.
Group Experimental Research - Research design typically implemented with about 10 or more subjects per group. The experimenter manipulates a variable and measures the effect on another variable.
Group Descriptive Research - Research design typically implemented with about 10 or more subjects per group. Used to examine (between) group differences, developmental trends or relationships among variables (within groups).
Evidence-Based Evaluation of Literature - Presentations based on literature may be submitted only if they provide evaluation of evidence-based research. ASHA’s website explains that evidence-based practice entails the use of current best research results to make clinical decisions about client care. Based on the evidence from a comprehensive literature search and review of published research studies, practice guidelines are developed to assist clinicians and clients in choosing the appropriate care for specific conditions. Typically, research evidence is rated or classified according to levels based on the type of research completed and the research design quality.
