The Spring 2014 Department of Counseling & Student Development Hooding Ceremony will be held Friday, May 9, 2014 at 4:00 P.M. in the Grand Ballroom of the Martin Luther King University Union.
Students should arrive at the Ballroom at approximately 3:00 wearing both cap and gown - mirrors will not be provided in the staging rooms. Please do NOT bring valuables with you, bring only notecards if you would like to use them during your remarks, tissues if you think you may need them, and your hood. You will remain in the following rooms until you are led into the ceremony:
Sullivan Room: School Counseling Students
Effingham Room: CSA Students
Greenup Room: Clinical Counseling Students
Guests are encourage to arrive anytime after 3:00 in order to secure seating. There are a high number of graduates, and seating is limited. Seats will be provided on a first come, first serve basis.
The ceremony will last until approximately 5:00 or 5:30, depending on how long the hooding itself takes, and will be followed by a reception where cake and punch will be served.
Each graduate will have the opportunity to make a few short remarks during the ceremony. It is acceptable to bring a note card with you on to the stage if you would prefer to prepare your remarks in advance. Students are encouraged to take this opportunity to thank their loved ones and friends, but are reminded to keep their comments brief to accommodate everyone.
The Hooding ceremony is held in addition to the Eastern Illinois University Commencement Ceremony, which will be held on Saturday, May 10, in Lantz Arena. The College of Education and Professional Studies will hold Commencement at 3:00 p.m.
