Due to EIU's Spring Festival 2024 (formerly known as Celebration); the event will be April 18, 19 and 20, Hayes Street (aka Doudna Circle) and the North Buzzard Parking Lot will be closed beginning at 5:00pm Wednesday, April 17 and will remain closed throughout the festival weekend. Hayes Street and the North Buzzard Lot will be available Sunday, April 20 at midnight.

PermalinkThe EIU Civil Service Council will hold an election on
April 17, 2024, to ratify proposed revisions to its Constitution. Under
Article XI, all amendments must “be ratified by the membership of the
Organization by a two-thirds majority of those voting.“ Therefore, we ask
for all non-negotiated civil service employees to participate in the election.
The election will take place completely online. On April 17th at 12:01 a.m., each non-negotiated civil service employee will receive an email containing a link to the ballot. It will be available until 11:59 p.m. on the same day. If you would like to review the proposed amendments, a link to the current and proposed draft can be found at https://www.eiu.edu/council/constitution_bylaws_2024.php.

Once again, Sarah Bush Lincoln Mammography Services will have their mobile mammography van on campus to provide digital mammograms. The van will be on campus Thursday, April 4, at 9 a.m., located in the drive between the Alumni Clock Tower and Lumpkin Hall. This service is available to all women aged 35 and over. Eastern Illinois University is conducting a Campus Sexual Misconduct Climate Survey as required by Illinois Law. The Illinois Board of Higher Education Task Force created the survey for distribution to all higher education institutions in Illinois. The purpose of the survey is to provide information about behaviors and perceptions that current students have related to the University.
Student participation in the survey will assist the University in its prevention and awareness efforts. Student participation is voluntary and may be withdrawn at any time. Responses will be confidential. The survey will be sent to students via email the week of March 11, 2024 and remain available until Friday, April 12, 2024.
At the conclusion of the survey, students will have the opportunity to click on a separate link to include their name and contact information if they would like to be included in a drawing for one of six $50 gift cards for dining dollars. No identifying information will be attached to survey responses.

PermalinkApplications are being sought at this time for the Non-Negotiated Civil Service Council scholarship. This scholarship was started to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the EIU Civil Service Council.
Applicants that receive financial assistance or tuition waivers are encouraged to apply. The scholarship is intended to assist with tuition, fees, or other costs associated with attending EIU 9such as housing, supplies, daycare, gas, etc.). The award is payable in Fall 2024 to your student account, and any remaining amount will be dispersed to the recipient. Fall 2024 enrollment must be verified before the scholarship is awarded.
The recipient must: 1) be a former, current, or retired Non-Negotiated Civil Service Employee; or a child or grandchild of a former, current, or retired non-Negotiated Civil Service Employee; 2) be a current or incoming freshman, sophomore, junior, senior or Graduate EIU student at enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours; 3) maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 and in good academic standing; high school seniors accepted to EIU shall enroll in a minimum of 6 semester hours of coursework and be ranked in the top 25% of their class. Following the return to normal activities, the individual should take additional preventive measures to help prevent spread of possible contagion as mask wearing and physical distancing for at least 5 days, as one may still possibly infect others.

Nominations are being sought for Eastern Illinois University's 2024 Faculty Laureate award, which recognizes a faculty member for excellence in supporting the general education curriculum. The Faculty Laureate leads the faculty and addresses incoming students during the fall convocation, among other honors.
Nominees must be current full-time members of EIU's teaching faculty (Unit A and Unit B faculty; department chairpersons are also eligible) and must have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to excellence in the general education curriculum.

Under the direction of the Dean of the College of Education, the Chair serves as the chief administrative and academic officer of the department with primary responsibility for the leadership, supervision, coordination, and administration of programs and activities of the department in a shared governance environment. The Chair is also an integral part of the College leadership team. The Department of Teaching, Learning, and Foundations enrolls approximately 500 students in four undergraduate majors (Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Middle Level Education, and Career & Technical Education: Business Education, Career & Technical Education: Family & Consumer Science, and Career & Technical Education: Technology}, two Master’s degree programs (Curriculum and Instruction and a MAT in Secondary Education}, and two certificate programs (Reading Teacher and English as a Second Language}, with approximately 20 FTE faculty and 3 staff.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications include a doctorate in a discipline represented within the Department, leadership, administrative and management experience in education, excellent written communication skills, and evidence of achievement in teaching, research, and service. A successful candidate will demonstrate excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to lead the faculty through collegial processes in the Department. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience promoting inclusive excellence is required.
