FAQ

Where is CATS Training Services for Students located?

We are located in the Gregg Technology Center, which is located to the west of Booth Library, in between Ford, McKinney, and Weller Halls.

How can instructors schedule a training session for their class?

Faculty may request technology demonstrations or training sessions currently offered in the training schedule as an enhancement to or in place of their regular class as long as they are present for the entire session.

For a more hands on experience, sessions may be conducted in the Gregg Technology Center (GTC) Training Classroom instead of the classroom. The GTC Training Classroom provides an instructor station, projection screen and 25 dual-boot iMacs for individual use. The GTC training classroom is subject to availability.

To schedule an in-class technology presentation, contact Kim Ervin, Training Specialist at least four weeks in advance at 217-581-8358 or kservin@eiu.edu

Is there a printed schedule of upcoming training sessions?

Each spring and fall semester flyers are developed and posted around campus advertising the training schedule for the current semester. Below is a link to a PDF of our current training schedule:

October 2013 Schedule

I need help with a technology in which no training sessions are offered.

While we strive to offer help on a large variety of technology, it is impossible to offer training on everything. Fortunately, EIU has provided all of its students and faculty with a free subscription to lynda.com. Lynda.com is an online training repository with thousands of professionally made training videos. For more information, please visit: http://www.eiu.edu/lynda/

Is one-on-one help available?

Absolutely! One-on-one help is offered to help answer specific technology questions. Please email Kim Ervin at kservin@eiu.edu if you would like to schedule one-on-one assistance.

I have a suggestion for a training session/resource you should offer.

We are always interested in hearing what technology training and resources our students will find useful. Please email suggestions to Kim Ervin at kservin@eiu.edu.
