Social Media Student Assistant
This position is responsible for maintaining CATS social media accounts, which include YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc, as well as assisting with updates to the CATS Website. This person is also a campus resource for other areas that need assistance with social media.

Employment Status: Part time (SAs: up to 21 hrs/wk in Fall/Spring; up to 28 hrs/wk in Summer)

Job Summary:

The Center for Academic Technology support (CATS), is a campus resource center for a variety of services and technological solutions. CATS is committed to supporting and promoting all academic departments in the use of information and communication technologies for teaching and learning at Eastern Illinois University.

CATS provides digital & multimedia assistance and support to Eastern Illinois University faculty, staff, students, departments and programs. These services include video production, captioning, photography, digital printing & publications, and other media-related needs.

This position is responsible for CATS Social Media accounts and assisting the campus with social media efforts. 


Job Functions: 

  1. Video production, which involves all phases and aspects of production including planning, storyboarding, capturing, post-production
  2. Use of video-related software (Adobe Software and others) and video-related hardware (DSLR, Camcorders, lighting, sound, studio equipment and others), MAC OS
  3. Management of the CATS YouTube account and other campus YouTube accounts, coordinating & communicating with media production supervisors, captioning supervisor, other CATS staff, and EIU constituents to ensure satisfactory completion of placing media resources online
  4. Daily management and posting to Facebook and Twitter accounts (MySpace, Blog, etc.), including communication with other areas in CATS to ensure posting of accurate information
  5. Assisting with updates to the CATS Website
  6. Consulting with campus constituents on a variety of digital and multimedia-related issues on campus
  7. Work collaboratively with any of the other Multimedia positions on various projects
  8. Conducting Research into new and emerging digital and multimedia technologies
  9. Conducting training for staff and faculty on campus in the use and principles of social media
  10. Learn new technologies
  11. Assist GA assigned to supervise Social Media
  12. Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • A knowledge of or experience with specific digital & multimedia software/hardware or other skills mentioned above, or the ability to learn these technologies quickly
  • 3.0 GPA in undergraduate work
  • Some relevant work experience is preferred but not required
  • Good written and oral communication
  • Attention to detail
  • Affinity for technology
  • Adaptable / flexible to the changing needs of the campus and technology
  • Good time management skills: the ability to work under a deadline and meet deadlines in a timely manner
  • The ability to troubleshoot
  • Demonstration of project management skills or the ability to learn these skills
  • The ability to work with multiple projects simultaneously and the flexibility to transition back and forth between projects
