Graphic Design / Publishing GA
This position supplies printed materials (CATS newsletters, posters, flyers, brochures) that provide a tangible reminder and advertisement about the services each of the different areas of CATS offer; reaches out to the campus and provide information/knowledge about technology in the learning environment; provides external departments with quality printed resources.

Employment Status: Part time (GAs: 19 hrs/wk in Fall/Spring; 15 hrs/wk in Summer)
Project Supervisors: Pete Grant
Terms: Contract
Period: Minimum 1 year

Job Summary:

The Center for Academic Technology support (CATS), is a campus resource center for a variety of services and technological solutions. CATS is committed to supporting and promoting all academic departments in the use of information and communication technologies for teaching and learning at Eastern Illinois University.

CATS provides digital & multimedia assistance and support to Eastern Illinois University faculty, staff, students, departments and programs. These services include video production, captioning, photography, digital printing & publications, and other media-related needs.

This position is responsible for assisting in the production of printed materials (CATS newsletter, posters, flyers) for CATS and the campus. 


Job Functions: 

  1. Conduct interviews for CATS Newsletter stories and compose articles based on the contents of an interview
  2. Write, edit, and proofread text and stories for newsletters and other CATS publications
  3. Assist with the design and printing of quality advertising materials (newsletters, posters, flyers, brochures, etc.) for CATS and the campus
  4. Assisting with updates to the CATS Website
  5. Consulting with CATS & campus constituents on their needs as they relate to providing information about services or technologies
  6. Work collaboratively with any of the other Multimedia GA positions on various projects
  7. Conducting training for staff and faculty on campus in the use and principles of print & design
  8. Learn new technologies
  9. Manage student(s) assigned to this GA position 
  10. Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • A knowledge of or experience with specific digital & multimedia software/hardware or other skills mentioned above, or the ability to learn these technologies quickly
  • 3.0 GPA in current graduate work or 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate work
  • Some relevant work experience is preferred but not required
  • Good written and oral communication
  • Attention to detail
  • Affinity for technology
  • Adaptable / flexible to the changing needs of the campus and technology
  • Good time management skills: the ability to work under a deadline and meet deadlines in a timely manner
  • The ability to troubleshoot
  • Demonstration of project management skills or the ability to learn these skills
  • The ability to work with multiple projects simultaneously and the flexibility to transition back and forth between projects
  • Good organization skills
