The Center for Academic Technology support (CATS), is a campus resource center for a variety of services and technological solutions. CATS is committed to supporting and promoting all academic departments in the use of information and communication technologies for teaching and learning at Eastern Illinois University.

CATS provides digital & multimedia assistance and support to Eastern Illinois University faculty, staff, students, departments and programs. These services include video production, captioning, photography, graphic design, digital printing and publications, media research, and other media-related needs.

Job Requirements of Digital & Multimedia Graduate Assistants:

  • A knowledge of or experience with specific digital & multimedia software/hardware or other skills mentioned above, or the ability to learn these technologies quickly
  • 3.0 GPA in current graduate work or 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate work
  • Minimum 2-semester commitment
  • Some relevant work experience is preferred but not required
  • Good written and oral communication
  • Attention to detail
  • Affinity for technology
  • Adaptable / flexible to the changing needs of the campus and technology
  • Good time management skills: the ability to work under a deadline and meet deadlines in a timely manner
  • The ability to troubleshoot
  • Demonstration of project management skills or the ability to learn these skills
  • The ability to work with multiple projects simultaneously and the flexibility to transition back and forth between projects
  • Good organization skills

Media Resource Coordinator GA

This position is responsible for assisting with managing the resources utilized by the CATS Multimedia team, including equipment management, time management, systems management and media management. This position will also assist with video projects as needed and manages the CATS Multimedia's library of current and past media projects.

Educational Media Coordinator GA

This position is responsible to assist with creation of media (educational pieces for the classroom / training videos / tutorials / instructional videos) for CATS and for the campus. This position also assists the campus by providing Kaltura support (YouTube for the classroom essentially) and Panopto Support, general media support for the classroom (Online Learning, instructor/student presentations, guest lecturers, etc.)

Creative Media Coordinator GA

This position provides video production, graphic design, motion graphics, social media, photography and publishing services to CATS and the EIU campus. For CATS, this includes design and publishing of the CATS newsletter, posters, flyers, brochures, etc.; maintain CATS social media accounts, and assist with updates to the CATS website as requested. All of these provide a tangible reminder and advertisement about the services each of the different areas of CATS and provide information/knowledge about technology in the learning environment. For the campus, this position assists with publishing of quality printed resources such as posters, flyers, and brochures (which may not include design work).

Digital Media Communications Coordinator GA

This position oversees and ensures proper digital communication of media-based projects. This includes the CATS Newsletter, researching and writing for grants, and overseeing transcription & captioning of videos that are intended for public viewing and classroom use.
