CATS Training Services provides technology-related professional development and support through instruction, training, consultation, informational seminars and resources to EIU faculty, staff and students.
The Center for Academic Technology Support (CATS) ensures that faculty, staff, and graduate assistants have the technology tools and support necessary to carry out the University’s mission. CATS training services is working to achieve three broad goals:
Provide faculty, staff, and graduate assistants with suggestions, via consultations, to enrich their experience with technology.
To show faculty, staff, and graduate assistants, through training sessions, how to use technology efficiently.
Create a supporting environment for faculty, staff, and graduate assistants to troubleshoot technologies for improvement in productivity.
The Center for Academic Technology Support, (CATS) originated in 2000 when the board of trustees made a public commitment to enhance learning and technology at Eastern Illinois University.
CATS is a campus resource center for a variety of services and technological solutions. CATS is committed to supporting and promoting all academic departments in the use of information and communication technologies for teaching and learning at Eastern Illinois University.
In 2001 CATS was put online to expand their support and service to EIU. In 2008 the technology-training center was developed in the training and development office in McAfee Gymnasium.
The training center host a variety of workshops and training sessions each semester to keep EIU faculty, staff, and graduate assistants informed on the technologies for teaching and learning at Eastern Illinois University.
Since the establishment of CATS, EIU has been able to expand their technological resources. CATS services include technology training, digital & multimedia, mobile & web applications, online course development, and the Gregg Technology Center (GTC).
