ADMISSION TO EIU SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

Completion of the Finance major (Bachelor of Science in Business in Finance degree) at Eastern Illinois University requires admission to the School of Business. Admission to EIU does not guarantee admission to the School of Business.

To qualify for admission to EIUís School of Business, students must have:

Completed 60semester hours of credit;

Completed all tool courses;

Earned a grade of C or better in the tool courses
*BUS 152 Managerial Accounting
*BUS 281Business Statistics
*CIS 160 Practical Software Applications
*MAT 210 Finite Math;

Earned a cumulative GPA of 2.50 on a scale of 4.0.

Students admitted to EIU are classified as pre-business until they complete the requirements for admission to the School of Business. A limited number of upper-division business courses are available to pre-business students.

Full-time students seeking to transfer to EIU should apply for admission in the first semester of their second year at Lake Land College. Students who wish to begin classes at EIU, for example, in the fall 2013 semester should apply in fall 2012. Transfer students who list Finance as their intended major on their EIU application automatically will be evaluated for admission to the School of Business.


Lake Land College is a public community college founded in 1966 offering career programs that lead to immediate employment, transfer programs which lead to a baccalaureate degree, liberal arts, adult education, special job training and retraining programs. The College enrolls 6,000 students from across East Central Illinois on its main campus in Mattoon and at the Effingham Kluthe Center, Workforce Development Center /IETC, on the Internet and at more than 25 off campus sites. The College is located at 5001 Lake Land Boulevard. (U.S. Route 45), Mattoon, Illinois, near the junction of Interstate 57, exit 184 and U.S. Route 45 and serves a 4,000 square mile district with a population of 201,000.

University Graduation Requirements
Among other requirements, students graduating from EIU must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher; an GPA of 2.0 or higher in the major; 40 semester hours of upper-division course (3000-4000 level); complete or have documented exemption from two courses in a single foreign language with a GPA of 2.0 or higher; two upper-division writing-intensive courses and electronic writing portfolio submission and assessment.
