Panel Discussion: Syria and Beyond
Join us for the first session of Asian Studies Colloquium Series of the year: Panel 'Syria and Beyond' at 5pm Thursday October 3 in Room 1895 MLK, Jr. Union.
The U.N. estimates that more than 100,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began in 2011. Two million refugees have fled to neighboring countries, and another five million Syrians have been internally displaced. The conflict in Syria has become one of the most significant humanitarian and political crises of our time. While the international community decides how to resolve the crisis, hundreds of people lose their lives each day. The crisis seems to spill over to neighboring countries and engulf the entire region in turmoil. The panel discussion Syria and Beyond will address the history of the conflict and its regional and global ramifications.
The panel features Profs. Brian Mann (History), Ahmed Abou-Zaid (Economics), and David Carwell (Political Science) whose research and expertise deal with West Asia and the Middle East. Audience questions and comments are welcome throughout the panel discussion. Refreshment will be served.
Please help us to announce the event to EIU and Charleston community as broad as possible. For questions and further information, please contact Jinhee Lee, Coordinator of Asian Studies at jlee@eiu.edu
