Living and Laughing by the Chopsticks-Fork Principle

Asian Heritage Month 2013 will be bringing in a guest speaker, Dr. Cathy Bao Bean to speak on “Living and Laughing by the Chopsticks-Fork Principle” from 2:00-3:30pm in the Coleman Hall Auditorium (1255, First Floor), and her presentation will shed light on important issues of culture and identity.

About the Speaker:
Cathy Bao Bean, author of The Chopsticks-Fork Principle, A Memoir and Manual and co-author of The Chopsticks-Fork Principle x 2, A Bilingual Reader for ESL and CFL learners, is a daughter, mother, wife, friend, sister, aerobics instructor, business manager (www.bennettbean.comwww.bennettbeanstudio.com), and president of the Society for Values in Higher Education (www.svhe.org) as well as its Summer Workshop for Teachers in China team leader. In a previous incarnation, she was a philosophy teacher, cook, student, carpool driver, and on the Board of Advisors of the Claremont Graduate University School of the Arts and Humanities (www.cgu.edu), the NJ Council for the Humanities (www.njch.org), and founding member of the Ridge and Valley Conservancy (http://rvclandtrust.org).

In the process, she has been learning how to make the 'foreign' more familiar and the ordinary and extraordinary into each other. None of it has been painless.  All of it has been fun - except the cooking.

You can also watch her excerpts from her presentation at Rutgers University Big Ideas Conference 2012: http://youtu.be/ZyuRa-fVjzM. Her website is http://www.cathybaobean.com/
