This exhibition and gallery talk are being presented for the Academy by EIU’s 2013 class of Historical Administration graduate students. The exhibition provides a look at the Civil War from the perspective of the Illinois soldier through artwork made by their own hands. Using soldiers’ sketchbooks, paintings, letters, and other materials, this exhibition will explore universal themes and experiences of war, and how such art is both personal and iconographic. The program will start in the Tarble Atrium with a brief introduction to the creation of the exhibition, and a presentation on the artwork and the history of select pieces. Following the presentation participants will tour the exhibition in the eGallery, with students available to answer questions. Dr. Mark Voss-Hubbard of the EIU History Department is serving as guest curator.
