Study Abroad in China
Under the guidance of Marketing Professor Dr. Marko Grünhagen, a School of Business study abroad trip to China has taken place each summer since its inception in 2010, with the next trip planned for summer of 2012. On the trip, students spend time in China’s capital Beijing as well as in Shanghai, the host city of the 2010 World Expo. During their time in Beijing, the group has taken classes in Chinese history, Confucian philosophy, Chinese language, and Marketing and Consumer Behavior in China. In addition, the students who participated visited several companies, such as Coca-Cola, the Yanjing brewery, Hyundai and Merck/MSD, and spent time at some of China’s most famous cultural sites, such as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, and the Ming Tombs. After a 10-hour overnight ride on a high-speed train, students have also spent several days in Shanghai, and visited the World Expo as well as a rural village outside of the city, built along ancient canals. Marketing major Brian Chmura, one of the 2010 trip participants, summarized his feelings about the trip by stating that “this was the best thing I have ever done in my life.”
