Dr. Gurkan Akalin Assistant Professor, MIS/OM

Dr. Akalin received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Arlington, in Management Science with a minor in Finance. He received a Master’s of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and received his undergraduate degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a minor in Economics from the University of Southern California. His research focuses on financial risk in supply chains and operations and finance interface. Dr. Akalin served as an instructor at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he taught undergraduate classes for several semesters. He was the recipient of a graduate fellowship at the University of Texas. Dr. Akalin’s professional experience includes working as an operations analyst intern for Norfolk Southern Railways and as a financial data provider for Morningstar, Inc. Dr. Akalin is excited to join the School of Business faculty at EIU. He says that the “enthusiastic student body” and the “student-focused” faculty made his decision to come to EIU an easy one.

Ms. Huang received her M.S. in Accounting with concentration in Financial Accounting and Auditing from the University of North Texas. She earned her BBA in Investment Economics from Jilin University.
She currently teaches Managerial Accounting and Financial Accounting courses.

Dr. Kight earned his J.D. from Southern Illinois University College of Law and his B.S. in International Economics and History with a minor in Business Administration from Rockford College.
He currently teaches several sections of BUS 2750, Legal & Social Environment of Business.

Dr. Chao Wen Assistant Professor, MIS/OM

Dr. Wen obtained his Ph.D. in Management Science from the University of North Texas. Additionally, he received his M.S. in Management Science and Engineering with a concentration in Supply Chain Management and his B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering, both from the University of Electronic Science & Technology of China.
Dr. Wen has published journal articles in the Journal of Computer Information Systems and Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking. Dr. Wen has more than ten conference proceedings and presentations. His research interests include e-commerce, consumer behavior, service operations, quality management, supply chain management, and statistics education. He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society and the Decision Sciences Institute. At the University of North Texas, he was the recipient of the ITDS Honor Student (2011), Outstanding International Graduate Student in the College of Business (2012), UNT Scholarship Award (2011-2012).
Dr. Wen chose to join the School of Business at EIU over several other schools because he "was very impressed with the academic atmosphere and mutually respectful workplace where [he] observed a lively exchange of ideas not only among colleagues but also between faculty and students, which demonstrates that the faculty really care about the success of their students.
