Transfer Student Community & Small Class Sizes
Appeal to Transfer Students
Derek Schuett is a Management major with a minor in Finance. He transferred to Eastern from Parkland College in Champaign. Derek had heard good things about EIU from alumni and current students. One of the major selling points was the smaller class sizes at Eastern that allow for more one-on-one time between faculty and students. He says that many of the students in the School of Business are transfer students, so there is a community of students that have a lot in common.
Derek advises incoming transfer students to “Be social and approachable. You never know who you will meet that possesses advice and insight that will be valuable to you. Work hard.” He also says that transfer students can get the most out of their academic experiences at EIU by taking advantage of the personal examples that many professors will provide, as “Many have vast knowledge and related experience that they are willing to share with you if you are willing to listen.”
