The study plan must be submitted within the first ten days of the second semester in the Biological Sciences Graduate Program (It is much better to have this done before second semester registration).
The study plan must include 30 semester hours (S.H.) of course work numbered 4750 and higher for the thesis option and 32 S.H. of course work numbered 4750 and higher for the internship/non-thesis options. Although additional courses can be taken during a student's tenure in the graduate program, only 30 or 32 S.H., respectively, can be included on the study plan.
The study plan should include no more than 10 S.H. of courses 4750-4999.
The study plan must include at least 1 S.H. of Seminar (BIO 5150).
The study plan must include a minimum of 21 semester hours of course work excluding Independent Study (BIO 5990), Thesis (BIO 5950), special courses and workshops.
At least 21 S.H. of the study plan must be earned in resident (E.I.U.) courses. Transfer credit must be graded "B" or higher and is limited to 9 S.H. Contact the Graduate School if you are in doubt about the applicability of a course.
The study plan of thesis option students must include 3 S.H. of Thesis (BIO 5950), should include 1-6 S.H. of Research (BIO 5900), and may include 1-6 S.H. of Independent Study (BIO 5990). A maximum of 9 S.H., in aggregate, of BIO 5900, 5950, and 5990 can be included in the thesis option study plan.
The study plan of internship option students must include 6 S.H. of Internship (BIO 5980) and 3 S.H. of Independent Study (BIO 5990). A maximum of 9 S.H. in aggregate of BIO 5980 and BIO 5990 can be included in the study plan of internship option students.
