Applied Environmental Geographic Informational System
The AEGIS computer lab is used to conduct environmental studies with a Geographic Information System. The lab provides modern tools and techniques for teaching, research and training environmental biologists. The lab is used by students and faculty to study and better understand environmental issues such as:
-- Land use changes
-- Land fragmentation
-- Protection of threatened species
-- Protection of ecosystems
-- Urban expansion
-- Pollution movement.
AEGIS Equipment includes the following:

ArcView is the world's most popular desktop mapping and GIS software providing data visualization, query, analysis, and integration capabilities along with the ability to create and edit geographic data.
IDRISI is the industry leader in raster analytical functionality covering the full spectrum of GIS and Remote Sensing needs from database query, to spatial modeling, to image enhancement and classification. MapiX. Mapix is a powerful, PC-based GIS program for the display of maps, overlay data, images and text using bitmapped images. Its graphical display capabilities can help visualize trends and geographic information that would be difficult or impossible in text-only alternatives. The ability to create to easily create your own maps allows its use where the lack of suitable map data precludes other approaches.
CITYgreen software is a third-party GIS extension of ArcView® GIS software that uses embedded formulas and parameters to calculate tree benefits from information stored in a GIS.
