SUBSTITUTING ACT COMPOSITE SCORE OF 22 (SAT of 1110) FOR TEST OF ACADEMIC PROFICIENCY (TAP)
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) allows students to substitute ACT or SAT test scores for the Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP)/Basic Skills. Evidence that either the TAP/Basic Skills test has been passed or ACT/SAT scores have been substituted for the TAP is required for admission to teacher education. Candidates must have an ACT Composite Score of 22 on the ACT plus Writing with a minimum writing subscore of 16 (tests taken prior to September of 2015, require a 19 on the combined English/Writing part), or an SAT composite score of 1110 and a minimum score of 26 on Writing and Language Test (tests taken prior to March 2016, require a composite score of 1030 and a minimum score of 450 on the Writing test). The version of the ACT the candidate took must have included the Writing test or it cannot be used to substitute for the TAP.
