ResearchMy work is rooted in a physical engagement with a world that is constantly in flux. Visual art allows me to resolve this flux; it is a statement of existence that bridges the divide between the internal world of the self and the external world of sense-things.
Relying upon a fusion of approaches, my pieces are composed utilizing diverse forms of drawing, printmaking, painting, sculpture, and video projection. These works examine the manipulation of language and landscape by contemporary authority figures in an effort to obscure our perception of truth.
When the essential meanings of words, places, and events are called into question, that which was once stable and accepted become instruments for the exploitation of our fears, prejudices, hopes, and dreams.
Applied to translucent films, dense papers, and unusual surfaces, my images are built, layer upon layer, and this construction process is analogous to the multi-layered, ever-changing reality that we are confronted with on a daily basis.
Ultimately, my hope is that I am able to create images and environments that are not only visually appealing, but that invite the viewer to pause and momentarily resolve the flux of their own lives.
