While team success was a high point of the 2013-14 school year, individual accomplishments ranked side-by-side in terms of excellence. No other place was that more apparent than in men's track. Senior pole vaulters Mick Viken and Peter Geraghty boosted the profile of the EIU men's track program as both advanced in that event on the national scene.
During the indoor season, both athletes challenged each other for the school and facility record in Lantz Fieldhouse. Geraghty was able to post a higher mark on the season, advancing to the NCAA National Championships where he placed 11th to earn second team All-American honors.
During the outdoor season, Viken and Geraghty again competed against each other on a weekly basis for school records. Both athletes advanced to the NCAA West Regional and then on to the NCAA National Championships. Both athletes cleared 18'0.50" at the NCAA meet. Geraghty placed fourth based on number of attempts while Viken placed ninth. Geraghty earned first team All-America honors as he posted the highest national finish for a men's track athlete since 1992. Viken earned second team All-America honors, ending his career with three straight All-America team honors.
