Fiber Structures Workshop: July 7 – 11, 2014
In this intensive studio based course, students will be introduced to various off-loom fiber process such as felting, stitching, knitting, crochet, Eastern style paper-making, lashing, and netting, as well as basket-making techniques such as twining, coiling, and random weaving. We will explore these processes, then make samples utilizing each of the techniques. Additionally, students will research a contemporary fiber artist and make a presentation to the class, sharing conceptual and technical aspects of the artist’s work. Following the in-class portion of the course, students will develop a thematic body of work based on extensive exploration of one, or several process investigated, culminating in the presentation of a digital portfolio.
This course will be taught by Ann B. Coddington. The course will be taught from July 7, 2014 – July 11, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. each day in Room 2690 of the Doudna Fine Arts Building. 37 CPDU credits can be earned for attending this workshop. The cost of the Workshop is $450.00.
