Position Announcement
Eastern Illinois University in Charleston , Illinois invites applicants for its Learning Disability Specialist position. The Learning Disability Specialist is a full-time, 12-month, A&P position reporting to the Assistant Director of Disability Services. This person is responsible for the determination, planning, and implementation of accommodations and support services for students with cognitive disabilities.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, School Psychology, or related field required; Master's preferred
- Two-three years experience working with students with cognitive disabilities
- Strong knowledge of psycho-educational tests and reports
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Experience in providing support for students with cognitive disabilities including reviewing disability documentation, and assigning reasonable accommodations
- Experience working as a member of a team, including faculty members
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
- Experience giving professional presentations or conducting trainings
- Broad range of experience working with a variety of disabilities
- Experience teaching compensatory strategies and skill sets
- Grant-writing experience
- Experience developing effective policies and procedures and new programs related to disability services
- Strong technology skills
