    The time the Corps spent at Ft. Clapsop was uncomfortable because it rained nearly every day.
    Nothing was ever dry.  People got sick.  Food was bad.  There was nothing to do but wait.

Beavers
    To hunt buffalo without horses, the Native Americans chased the herd over a cliff.
    A Native American nation for which the Corps of Discovery had great respect were the
    Sioux people.

Captains
    Nez Pierce means "pierced noses."  These people raised fine horses called Appaloosas which the
    Corps needed to cross the mountains.
    Important ideas to be learned from Lewis and Clark are survival, trust, be prepared, respect,
    teamwork, courage.

Grizzlies
    The St. Louis Arch is the symbol of the Gateway to the West.
    After the journey of Lewis and Clark, the number of grizzly bears decreased by a lot.
    An adult grizzly can weigh up to  600  pounds.
    Americans and Indians admired the great bear because he was brave and strong even after being
    shot.
