What is Philanthropy?
An activity
or institution that one gives charitable aid or
donations to. Our Sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma supports
the Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation.
The Foundation's Mission:
The Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation is a non-profit
corporation established by Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority to
solicit, collect, and distribute funds that will be used
for programs which promote the educational aims,
leadership skills, and community service goals of the
organization and its membership. The Foundation
distributes funds for charitable, philanthropic,
educational, and other benevolent purposes, including,
but not limited to the establishment of programs:
-
To
promote educational and leadership skills of women
to meet the demands of contemporary society
-
To provide scholarships and grants to worthy
students
-
To foster community service by the membership with
special emphasis on support of play therapy for
hospitalized children
The Foundation supports play therapy for
hospitalized children at Children's Medical Center in
Dallas, Texas and the University of North Carolina
Hospitals, Chapel Hill, through grant requests for RPM
fellowships, playrooms, play therapy equipment and
materials, video libraries, and medical teaching tools.
Small local grants are available by request through
alumnae and collegiate chapters to area hospitals with
accredited child life programs.
Alpha Psi National Philanthropy Activity
To raise money for our national philanthropy, the Alpha
Psi chapter holds an annual
dodge ball game in the Fall and a
basketball tournament, Sigma Slam N' Jam, which is held
in the Spring. Many fraternities and sororities
participate in this philanthropy activity. Tri Sigma
has been holding the dodge ball tournament for two years
and the basketball tournament for five years. We hope to
have great success for the upcoming years. |
