Career and Technical Education
What are the objectives of Career and Technical Education at Eastern Illinois University?
If you would like to teach business, family and consumer sciences, or industrial technology to junior/senior high school students, then Career and Technical Education is the major for you.
What are the current job opportunities?
At the present time, there are shortages of teachers in each of the three disciplines; therefore, positions with competitive salaries ranging from $22,000 - $38,000 for nine months are readily available in Illinois and around the nation.
What are the course requirements for this major?
In addition to the University's general education requirement, students will take courses in education and in their content areas. Students in business will be able to teach accounting, basic business, and information processing (including keyboarding and computer applications). Students in family and consumer sciences will be able to teach any FCS area offered in high schools. Students in technology will be able to choose at least three from the following areas: construction, drafting and design, electronics, graphic communication, industrial technology, and manufacturing.
May I be considered as a transfer student?
Yes. Students are encouraged to check with the departmental academic advisor concerning coursework if they intend to transfer. Transfer students and students who have completed the Associate in Science or the Associate in Arts degree will be admitted to the University and their work will be evaluated by the academic advisor on a course-by-course basis to determine degree requirements that have been satisfied.
