All students who are pursuing the Social Science Major under a Fall, 2004 or later catalog should take the following courses:

In the History Component students complete HIS 3555 rather than HIS 3600G

In the History Component students complete HIS 1500G (1: Society and Religion) rather than the other two versions of HIS 1500G

Students who are pursuing the Psychology Designation only complete PSY 3310 rather than PSY 3680.

(Major GPA based on all anthropology, economics, geopgraphy, history, political science, psychology, sociology and social science courses taken at EIU.)

University approval to take Teacher Education courses should occur at the at the end of the first semester junior year with Formal University Admission to Teacher Education occuring at the end of the junior year. See the “Teacher Certification Programs” section in the 2003-2004 Undergraduate Catalog (pg 59).

Satisfactoy completion of this major requires:
  1. a grade of C or higher in each course that applies to the 78-84 semester hours of courses required, regardless of where taken;
  2. a major and cumulative grtade -point average of at least 2.75 in all courses
    attempted at EIU;
  3. at least 45 semester hours of the requireds for the social science major must be in courses taken at EIU.
