Goals and Objectives for Recreation Administration

Goal 1) To revise curriculum to address current professional development issues and trends. 
Objective Action Individual(s) Completion Date
1.1)  Conduct a departmental review of required recreation core courses against NRPA's Council on Accreditation professional competencies. Faculty review courses and discuss possible action, including (but not limited to):  reduction of credit hours in some courses with the increase of credit hours in other course; addition of courses; revisions to current syllabi/course content. 1.2)  Investigate the expansion/proposal of new courses (outdoor, advanced technology, online, CTRS prep, tourism) Curriculum committee will review proposals for various concentrations.  Each faclty will take the lead in exploring courses from their area.  All Faculty Spring 2008.
1.3)  Investigate the feasibility for collaboration of course offerings with other departments on campus Faculty discuss areas of possible collaboration and generate list of target departments.   Wooten  
1.4) To explore the development of a Graduate program including nontraditional formats. Meet with Mary Herrington-Perry and Dean Augustine.  Provide information to faculty. Higelmire May-08
1.5) To create experiential learning opportunities   Explore opportuities for students to participate in application bades learning activities All Faculty Ongoing
1.6)  To explore the development/acquisition of additional storage space Follow-up with J. Cross regarding alternative sites for storage in McAfee. Higelmire May-08

Goal 2) To enhance the Department of Recreation Administration's visibility and development opportunities.

2.1)  Continue and strengthen relationships  with recreation agencies. Faculty will explore ways to serve on recreation related professional committees All Faculty Ongoing
2.2)  Develop an up-to date mailing and e-mail list of Department of Recreation Administration Alumni Work with foundaton to develop an accurate email list Higelmire                                May-08
2.3)  Assist in applying for internal and external grants Identify project areas and possible collaboration projects among university faculty (and community). All Faculty Ongoing

Goal 3) To revise the Department of Recreation Administration's student assessment standards and practices.

Goal 4) To enhance the Department of Recreation Administration's promotion and marketing strategies.

4.1) To investigate providing undeclared majors with pomotional materials Obtain list of undeclared majors from admissions.  Mail promotional materials to those on list. Higelmire May-08
4.2) To investigate providing park districts with promotional materials Determine need of council members and provide appropriate levels of materials Higelmire May-08
4.3) To provide promotional materials for the University Foundation Career Fair Review current promotional materials for the University Foundation Career Fair. Pommier             Holmes-Layman Ongoing
4.4)  To investigate public TV/radio announcements Communication with public television and radio stations throughout Illinois via email, telephone, and in person to learn what type of announcements are acceptable, feasibility of announcements, time needed to produce and air. Wooten
