Friday 10/2, 4:00 - ColloquiumSpeaker: Charles DelmanTopic:How many billiard trajectories exist on a table with pockets OM 215 Abstract: In contrast to billiards in an ordinary polygon, the possibilities for trajectories on a table with pockets removed from the corners are limited. Gregory Galperin and I recently showed that the number of trajectories which do not end up in some pocket is bounded above by a number proportional to the ratio of the areas of the table and pocket, regardless of the shape of the table! |
