More than 18 scholarships carrying cash awards are presented at the Journalism/Student Media Banquet at the end of the spring semester. In general, full-time Journalism majors who have been admitted or are currently enrolled at Eastern and intend to complete their bachelorís degree at Eastern are eligible. However, additional specific qualifications for some scholarships have been set by those who provided the scholarship endowment.

The selection begins in February as faculty in the Department of Journalism nominate students for awards. Incoming freshmen and transfer students may be nominated by a high school journalism teacher or adviser or a journalism instructor or adviser at the college currently attended. The dozens of students nominated all have achieved significantly, so a nomination in itself should be considered noteworthy.

Once nominated, students must complete and return applications and any supporting materials by March 10th. Winners of five scholarships are selected by the Journalism faculty at large. For other scholarships, individual committees make the final decision.
