Graduate Application Instructions
In order to be considered for admission to Eastern Illinois University as a GRADUATE student, the following documents must be received by International Programs before the stated deadline:
1. Application for Admission
2. Official records (transcripts or mark sheets) for each year of post-secondary education completed and official copies of any diplomas or degrees awarded. A minimum grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale is required to be considered for admission to a degree program. The transcript must document completion of a four-year baccalaureate, or its equivalent, comparable to that awarded by an accredited institution in the United States.
Records must give information on the content and quality of the student's performance, courses taken each year, and grades received. Official credentials must bear the seal and signature of the registrar or university official. If these records are in a language other than English, they must be accompanied by an official English translation.
Transfer students are strongly encouraged to submit course descriptions or syllabi along with their transcripts as this information will help speed the transfer process.
3. Official TOEFL or IELTS score mailed directly from the Testing Service. Test results are valid for two years only. Minimum scores for each type of test are as follows:

Paper-Based TOEFL: 550 points
Computer-Based TOEFL: 213 points
Internet-Based TOEFL: 79 points
IELTS: 6.5 on the Academic Module

This requirement MAY be waived under the following circumstances:
A) You have successfully completed 24 semester hours of academic credit from a U.S. college or university, or
B) You have completed Level 112 courses with a Certificate of Proficiency from an ELS Language Center in the U.S., or
C) You have successfully completed two consecutive years of courses in a country where English is the primary language and medium of instruction.
4. Official entrance exam score (GRE, MAT, GMAT, etc.) mailed directly from the Testing Service if required by your program. To find out of your program requires one of these specific exams, contact the appropriate departmental Graduate Coordinator.
5. A completed International Student Financial Affidavit Form, documenting sufficient funding for the intended program of study. To see the total cost of one year of study, please see our Costs page.
6. An I-20 Mailing Instructions Form telling International Programs where you would like your acceptance packet sent by regular mail if you are accepted.
7. Non-refundable application fee of $30.00 U.S. in the form of a check, certified check or money order made payable to Eastern Illinois University .
Application Deadlines
Fall Semester (Begin courses in August):
May 15th to apply for admission, May 30th to complete file
Spring Semester (Begin courses in January):
October 15th to apply for admission, October 30th to complete file
