Faculty and A&P Tuition Waiver



Health Insurance

Provided for full-time employees with a minimum contract length of 9 months. If employment is less than full-time, but 50% or greater, participation at a cost to the employee is optional. Coverage is effective the first day of employment. Available health plans are either State Health Plan or one of our Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO's). Coverage may be purchased for eligible dependents. Dental and vision coverage is provided, as separate plans, to all employees who are enrolled in one of the health plans. Term Life Insurance

Available only to employees participating in the employer health insurance. Coverage amount equal to 100% of annual salary. Additional insurance for the individual and/or eligible dependents may be purchased.

Retirement Plan

State Universities Retirement System. Reciprocity with all other public retirement systems in Illinois. Employee contribution is 8% of gross earnings and is tax- sheltered. Participation is mandatory for employees with a minimum contract length of 4 months or more. Participants may select one of three retirement options. Traditional or Portable which are Defined Benefit Plans or Self Managed which is a Defined Contribution Plan. Contact Benefit Services, 581-5825, for further details.

Sick Leave

A full-time employee on a temporary appointment and less than six consecutive years of service at half time or more shall earn sick leave equivalent to one day of sick leave per month of appointment. The employee shall be credited at the beginning of her/his appointment with the appropriate number of sick days. Part-time temporary employees shall earn sick leave on a prorated basis. Temporary employees shall not receive any benefit for unused sick leave at the end of the academic year or at the end of the academic year or at the end of her/his appointment, whichever is earlier. Sick days earned by temporary faculty who have completed six or more consecutive years of service at half time or more can be accumulated to a maximum of 50 days. Temporary faculty may not receive any benefits from unused sick leave. (Article 24.7d. Unit B Agreement)

Bereavement Leave

Bereavement Leave with pay shall be granted to an eligible non-negotiatied employee as outlined in Internal Governing Policy 4. Negotiated Faculty and Staff members should review their respective contract for specific information. See Employee and Labor Relations.

Family & Medical Leave

Family & Medical Leave Request Form

All employees who have a total cumulative service of at least one year with the Board of Trustees (BOT) and who have worked for 1250 hours over the last twelve months, may take up to a total of twelve weeks leave during any twelve month period. Contact the Employment Office, 581-3463, for additional information.

Professional Meetings and Work-related travel

An employee's expenses in connection with approved professional meetings or activities may be reimbursed in accordance with University policy. An employee shall receive a reimbursement for authorized travel required by the employee's work assignment per University policy.

Employee Assistance Program

Employees and their eligible dependents are provided counseling services through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Contact Benefit Services, 581-5825, for further details.

Tax-Sheltered Supplemental Retirement Plans (403B) & Deferred Compensation Plan (457B)

Educational Benefits

A full-time faculty member may enroll for credit at the University for a maximum of two courses, or six credit hours, whichever is greater, in any academic term during which she/he is employed, with exemption from the payment of tuition and fees. Waivers are available on the Forms page or at the Benefit Services Office, 2031 Old Main, and must be approved before registering for any course work each semester.

Tuition Waiver for Child

Upon verification of eligibility, a 50% tuition waiver may be offered to each child of any State of Illinois University employee who is employed at the time of application and has at least seven cumulative years of employment. Contact Benefit Services, 581-5825, for further details.

Annual Leave

None for Temporary Faculty.

Military Leave

Available with restrictions. Contact the Employment Office, 581-3463, for additional information.

Additional Benefits

Temporary negotiated faculty members who have competed six consecutive years of service at half time or more may be eligible for additional benefits in the areas of Parental Leave, Military Leave, or Personal Leave. Please check with Benefit Services for further details.
