on other grants available through YAHOO
There are a variety of grants available from both the Federal Government
as well as the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) for those
students who demonstrate the greatest need. Grants are a form of gift
aid that do not have to be repaid.
Federal
Pell Grants:
The Federal Pell Grant is awarded to help an undergraduate pay for his
or her education after high school. This grant provides the "foundation"on
which other Financial Aid sources may be added. Awards may range up to
$4,310 per year in 2007-2008.
Federal
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants:
This grant is to help students pay for their education after high school.
These monies are available for undergraduate students only. Awards range
up to $4,000 per year depending upon demonstrated need, availability of
funds, and the amount of other aid being received.
Monetary
Award Program:
The Monetary Award Program (MAP) provides grant assistance to eligible students demonstrating financial need. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of three credit hours and a maximum of 15 credit hours. MAP grants are applied toward tuition and mandatory fees for undergraduate students, not to exceed the maximum award amount for the academic year. The MAP formula is used to distribute the appropriated grant funds so that the neediest students receive grant assistance. Several components are used to determine eligibility. Monetary Award Program Plus:
The Monetary Award Program Plus (MAP Plus) provides grant assistance to students who do not receive a MAP grant and whose family’s adjusted gross income (AGI) is less than $200,000 in the applicable tax year. Students must be enrolled as sophomores, juniors or seniors, at least half time (six hours) at MAP-approved Illinois colleges, and working toward a degree or certificate program. Recipients must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The maximum MAP Plus available to a qualified applicant is $500 per school year, disbursed in two payments not to exceed $250 per term. A MAP Plus grant combined with other tuition and fees scholarships must not exceed tuition and mandatory fees. Illinois
National Guard Grant:
Members of the Illinois National Guard are eligible to receive a grant
to assist with the cost of education. Applicants must:
- be full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate students at Illinois
public colleges, universities, or community colleges,
- have served for at least one year in the Illinois National Guard (Army
or Air Force),
- apply yearly to receive benefits, which covers cost of tuition and
a university mandated activity fee.
Illinois
Veterans Grant:
The Illinois Veterans Grant is available to those who have served one
year of active duty in the United States Armed Forces as a member of the
Army, Navy, Marine Corp, Air Force, or Coast Guard. This grant is available
to both undergraduate and graduate students at all Illinois public colleges,
universities, and community colleges. Applicants must:
- apply for the Illinois Veterans Grant yearly,
- it can only be used to cover the cost of tuition and certain fees,
- must have resided in Illinois six months before entering the service,
- and must have returned to Illinois six months after discharge.

Montgomery
G.I. Bill-Active Duty Educational Assistance Program
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides educational benefits
under the Montgomery G.I. Bill-Active Duty Educational Assistance Program.
To determine if you are eligible for benefits from VA, you must complete
an application, which can be obtained from most colleges or any regional
VA Office.

G.I. Bill Selected Reserve Educational Assistance Program
The Montgomery G.I. Bill is for members of Army, Navy, Marine Corps,
Air Force, and Coast Guard Reserves, the Army National Guard and the Air
Guard. To determine if you are eligible for benefits from VA, you must
complete an application, which can be obtained from most colleges or any
regional VA Office.
Survivors'
and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides educational benefits
under the Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program. This
program provides educational opportunities to eligible dependents of certain
veterans. Financial aid is available to the dependent sons, daughters,
and spouses of: Veterans who died or are permanently and totally disabled
as the result of a service-connected disability. (The disability must
arise out of active service in the Armed Forces). Veterans who died from
any cause while such service-connected disability was in existence. Service
persons missing in action or captured in line of duty by a hostile force.
Service persons forcibly detained or interned in line of duty by a foreign
government or power. To determine if you ar eligible for benefits from
the VA, you must file a claim which can be obtained from any regional
VA office.
Post-Vietnam
Era Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)
The Veterans Administration (VA) provides a program of financial assistance
for the education of eligible participants under VEAP. For eligibility
information contact the regional VA Office to obtain further information
and an eligibility claim form.
