Sixty-three students from ten area high schools participated in the contest.
Dr. Svetlana Mitrovski of the Chemistry Department was the featured speaker at the post-test program. She presented a talk entitled Microfluidic Electrochemical Devices. Dr. Mitrovski is one of a trio of new faculty who joined the EIU Chemistry Department in Fall 2007. She obtained her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Illinois.
Neoga HS (teacher: Ms. Leanne Evans) was the top team winning the contest with a team average of 38.42 and taking the 1st place individual award.
Teams from Mahomet-Seymour, Robinson, Lawrenceville, and Mattoon placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.
Liz Allen (Neoga) earned 1st place with a near perfect score, and new contest record of, 48.75--one incorrect! A truly remarkable accomplishment.
Andrew Martin (St. Teresa) finished a strong second with a score of 46.5.
Jonathon Schuh, Jacob Jarrett, Dylan Roderick, and Jacob Hawk (all from Mahomet-Seymour!) captured 3rd through 6th place honors respectively with scores ranging from 44-41.25. Another noteworthy accomplishment!
These students were awarded plaques honoring their accomplisments.
