Middle Grades Endorsement
In addition to the required middle school coursework, the middle school Math endorsement requires a three-semester hour course in methods of teaching mathematics in the middle grades (MAT 3620) and 15 semester hours selected from four of the topics below (These are the courses that the Math Department has identified as falling into each of the categories):

    1. Math content courses for elementary teachers, (MAT 1420, 4920)
    2. Calculus, (MAT 2110, 1441, 2442)
    3. Modern algebra or number theory, (MAT 4810-Number Theory, 4810-Algebra, 2800, 4910)
    4. Geometry, (MAT 2420, 4920, 3271)
    5. Computer science, (MAT 4810- Math Modeling, 2170)
    6. Probability and statistics, (MAT 4810-Probability, 2250, 3701)
    7. History of mathematics. (MAT 4810-History, 4900)

It is important for everyone to know that the Math department does not consider MAT 1271 a modern algebra course and therefore we do not use the course as meeting one of the four areas. Visit the Math Department website for a printout of the above information. http://www.eiu.edu/%7Emathte/concentrate.htm
