POLICY FOR OBTAINING NOTETAKERS
Students entitled to have a notetaker in class are students who may find taking classroom notes difficult due to a physical, visual, or hearing limitation or who must focus all their concentration and attention on listening to the instructor. Students requesting notetaker services must provide the Assistant Director with documentation supporting their qualification for notetaker services.
The University employs a volunteer notetaker system. The memoranda, provided to students by the Office of Disability Services, indicates the best way for faculty to obtain a notetaker. Carbonless paper (NCR Paper), available through the Office of Disability Services, will be supplied to students who are entitled to have a notetaker.
Students with severe visual impairments may choose to have xerox copies made of the notes. These will be provided by instructors or through the Office of Disability Services.
The volunteer notetaker will not be held accountable for providing students with copies of notes they miss due to unexcused absences. In the event that a student has an unexcused absence, he/she will have to arrange to obtain copies of notes at their own expense.
