Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexic (RFB&D):

The Office of Disability Services will assist students to obtain taped textbooks from Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexic (RFB&D), an organization which records many college texts every year. Students who have not already registered with RFB&D may obtain an application form at the Office of Disability Services or by going to their WEB address at http://www.rfbd.org.  Assistance in completing this form will be provided by Disability Services staff. Students who are vocational rehabilitation (VR) clients may be eligible for financial assistance in paying RFB&D fees. In Illinois, vocational rehabilitation services are provided through the Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Rehabilitation Services. Students who are VR clients must contact their VR counselor to determine qualification for this assistance.

Recorded books must be ordered well in advance of the start of the semester to ensure receiving them before the beginning of class. Students are responsible for notifying staff at the Office of Disability Services when they wish to have recorded texts. Disability Services will place the order ONLY when such notification is received. Students must: (1) make sure their registration with RFB&D is active and (2) must notify RFB&D to change their shipping address to that of the Office of Disability Services at Eastern.

Orders of texts will be made in the student's name but they will be delivered to the Office of Disability Services. Students will be notified when their cassettes arrive, and the student can then arrange to pick them up. While the books are in the student's possession, the student is responsible for any loss or damage to the cassettes.

Cassettes of recorded books must be returned at the end of the semester to the Office of Disability Services.
